Research Paper
This study investigated university students’ comfortability with instructors’ nonverbal immediacy behaviors in a college classroom.
A sample of ten participants was drawn from a regional university in the Midwest. The participants were asked to respond to an instrument designed to measure the students’ comfortability of an instructors’ nonverbal immediacy behaviors.
The data was analyzed by conducting a t-test. The results did not support the hypothesis that female students are less comfortable with instructors’ immediacy behaviors.
This was a well-written article. The literature reviewed consisted of relevant sources. The methods of the study were adequately explained to the extent that the research could be replicated. The results section clearly stated the findings of the instruments used in the experiment. Most importantly, the discussion section appears to be objective and based off of unbiased interpretation of the results. The only negative aspect of this article is the use of the word gender in place of the word sex. This article fits well with existing research and offered findings which are relevant to the field of communication education.
